Frequently Asked Questions

What are the clinic’s COVID-19 responses?

Please see our COVID-19 updates here.

How do I know which services are right for me?

If your child or adolescent is experiencing difficulties or needs help in the areas of mental health or academia, our services are right for you. From individual therapy to individualized academic intervention plans, Bright Lights Psychology Clinic is here to help best support your child or adolescent.

Why choose Bright Lights?

Bright Lights Psychology Clinic is unique in its' multi-disciplinary approach to your child's care, with our team consisting of psychologists and teachers. All of our services are overseen by a registered psychologist, allowing us to create a unique plan for your child in whichever area of support they require.

What if my child already has a therapist, psychologist, and/or educator?

We encourage collaboration between our clinic and other professionals. If your child or adolescent already sees another psychologist, we can enter a data-sharing agreement that is confidential and secure between both clinics.

Does the clinic have parking?

There is a Green P at Christie Station that can be used for parking.

How do I find out whether my insurance covers Bright Lights’ services?

You will need to contact your individual insurance providers regarding policies and coverage. Our services are registered psychological services, therefore all services are covered by most extended insurance plans.

How long are the sessions and how many will we need?

Sessions can be 1 hour or 30 minutes in duration, depending on the client and the recommendations by the academic interventionist or clinician.

How involved does the parent or guardian get in the sessions?

The level of parental involvement depends on the case and the service being sought. For example, in Academic Intervention services, we recommend the parent sit in on the first session to get to know the teacher and the academic plan. Teachers will also communicate with parents should there be any concerns or changes in the learning plan.

What if I change my mind and do not want to continue?

You can cancel or discontinue your sessions at any time. Please ensure that if you are cancelling a session that you give at least a 24-hour notice to avoid incurring a charge for late-cancellation or no-shows.

What are the clinic’s policies for cancelled or late appointments?

We require 24 hours notice for a session cancellation. Full session fees are charged for missed appointments without at least 24 hours notice. An invoice will be sent to the email address on file for late cancellations and missed appointments.

If we haven’t answered your question, please feel free to contact us. Our clinic manager will get back to you as soon as possible.
