His clinical interests include learning and attention difficulties, assistive technology, anxiety, mood, and emotion regulation. He  draws on cognitive-behavioural approaches to therapy and intervention, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), to help young people develop practical skills and strategies for managing challenges, regulating emotions, and building on their strengths.

At Bright Lights, Dr. McNaughtan conducts comprehensive psychoeducational assessments, helping children, families, and educators better understand students’ strengths and needs and develop meaningful recommendations for support. He also provides in-person therapy at the Bloor St. office. He contributes to research and program development at the clinic, with a focus on improving assessment practices and translating psychological research into supports that are useful for families and schools.
