Academic Intervention Lead

Shona supervises and oversees the progress of our online academic interventions and the You Are Not Alone parent coaching program. After completing her B.A. in Psychology and Neuroscience from McGill University, Shona obtained her M.Ed. in Developmental Psychology and Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, where she completed a research project on the developmental trajectory of math anxiety in elementary school. She then obtained a Master of Arts in Developmental Psychology and Education, where her research project examined the role of family functioning in substance use treatment outcomes for youth with learning disabilities. Prior to completing her graduate degree, Shona was a certified tennis coach for six years, specialized in working with children and adults with special needs and disabilities. She is very passionate about utilizing both her research and professional experiences to improve educational accessibility and support our most vulnerable students.

Doctoral Clinician

After completing her second Master’s, Shona then pursued her second Master of Arts in School and Clinical Child Psychology, where she completed her thesis examining the impact of emotional intelligence and learning challenges on substance use treatment outcomes for youth. During her SCCP Master’s, she received training on conducting psychological assessments and completed a one-year practicum in the Toronto District School Board. Shona now administers psychological assessments at Bright Lights Psychology Clinic. Currently, Shona is in the first year of her PhD at OISE, University of Toronto. When conducting assessments, Shona strives towards using a social-justice framework with the goal to engage in culturally-appropriate and collaborative process with clients and their families.
